The 12 Hallmarks of Aging in Dogs, Explained
Read full insightStrellaLab NAD+ Chews vs. Hollywood Elixir for Dogs
By La Petite Labs Editorial 17 min read
Choosing a healthy-aging supplement means deciding what to add to the food and care already in your dog’s life. StrellaLab NAD+ Recovery Immune Support is a five-active peanut-butter chew. Hollywood Elixir is our broader, 17-active system for cellular nutrition, mixed into the usual meal. This comparison explains why we recommend that wider formula, alongside the practical reasons a chew may suit another owner.
La Petite Labs makes Hollywood Elixir and publishes this source-based comparison. We have not conducted a feeding trial of these products.
What are StrellaLab NAD+ Recovery Immune Support chews?
This is StrellaLab’s peanut-butter-flavored healthy-aging supplement for dogs, sold in a 90-chew jar. Its named active ingredients combine an NAD precursor with niacinamide, vitamin C, quercetin and resveratrol. The appeal is a familiar treat format and a relatively low purchase price. 1
It is sold as a daily supplement, with portions based on the dog’s weight. The online ingredient and serving information is enough to establish the type of product; the conflicting precursor and quantity declarations need a closer look before you rely on a particular active amount.
What distinguishes Hollywood Elixir?
Its CoQ10 and reduced glutathione add distinct cellular roles to the precursor-and-antioxidant design, within a 17-active meal powder.
The Plain Comparison
The difference is what accompanies the precursor
| Decision | StrellaLab | Hollywood Elixir | What that means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formula design | Five named precursor/antioxidant actives; quantities unresolved. | 17-active formula including CoQ10 and reduced glutathione. | Different recipes, not a verified potency ranking. |

The formula choice, side by side
- NAD-oriented ingredients — StrellaLab NAD+ chews: NR chloride in the ingredient list; NMN in the description, plus niacinamide; Hollywood Elixir: NR tartrate and niacin.
- Shared antioxidant ingredients — StrellaLab NAD+ chews: Vitamin C, quercetin and resveratrol; Hollywood Elixir: Includes those ingredients within a wider antioxidant selection.
- Further formulation choices — StrellaLab NAD+ chews: Five named actives in the published list; Hollywood Elixir: CoQ10, reduced glutathione, B vitamins, beta-glucans, reishi and other ingredients within the 17-active formula.
- How it enters the day — StrellaLab NAD+ chews: Peanut-butter soft chew; Hollywood Elixir: Savory chicken powder mixed into food.
- Main purchase consideration — StrellaLab NAD+ chews: Low-cost chew; confirm the current label; Hollywood Elixir: Broader cellular-nutrition design; higher daily cost.
These are differences in composition and routine. The following explanations show why the additional ingredients matter to Hollywood Elixir’s purpose. 1 2
NAD+ helps make food energy usable
Food supplies energy, but cells need a series of chemical reactions to make it usable. During nutrient breakdown, NAD+ accepts electrons and becomes NADH. NADH can pass those electrons into machinery inside mitochondria that helps produce ATP, the molecule that powers much of the cell’s work. 3
NR is a precursor: a starting material cells can use to make NAD+. Niacinamide is another compound involved in NAD metabolism. This explains why a product can be sold for “NAD+ support” while listing precursor ingredients. The front-of-pack term describes the intended nutritional target; it does not identify the molecule in the chew. Our NAD+ for dogs guide explains the system in more detail. 11
Does StrellaLab contain NR or NMN?
Chewy’s ingredient list names nicotinamide riboside chloride, or NR chloride. The same listing’s description names nicotinamide mononucleotide, or NMN. The manufacturer-branded graphics we inspected identify NR, including NR chloride. 1
The ingredient list and graphics therefore point toward NR, but the conflicting description remains unresolved. We would ask StrellaLab to confirm the current formula for the jar being supplied. NR and NMN are different compounds, so this is more than a spelling issue.
Why we are not assigning a dose to each active
The published quantities disagree too. One branded graphic lists 120 mg of NR without stating its serving basis. Another gives 5,400 mg of NR chloride per jar. Chewy’s analysis text has a malformed NR entry, and its companion-ingredient amounts also differ from the graphics. 1
Dividing a jar total by 90 would produce a number, but it would not establish which conflicting declaration describes the current chew. Ask for a readable active-ingredient panel, its serving size and confirmation that it applies to the jar you receive. Until that is resolved, we can compare the named ingredients and routine, but cannot responsibly rank the formulas by precursor dose.
“NAD+ helps cells make food energy usable. NR is a starting material cells can use to make NAD+.”
Why Hollywood Elixir includes CoQ10 alongside NR
Supplying a building block for NAD+ addresses one part of cellular energy production. CoQ10 has another job. Within mitochondria, it carries electrons between parts of the machinery that helps produce ATP. NADH supplies electrons near the start of that chain; CoQ10 helps carry them onward. 3
Hollywood Elixir brings NR and CoQ10 together because their normal roles belong in the same explanation of how cells make energy available. StrellaLab’s published five-active list does not include CoQ10. That is a specific formulation difference, and a reason to consider Hollywood Elixir when you want NAD+ nutrition developed beyond precursor supply. 1 2
Glutathione gives the antioxidant choice more substance
Cells also need ways to manage reactive substances produced during normal life. Reduced glutathione helps an enzyme turn hydrogen peroxide into water. This is one of the cell’s working antioxidant defenses, with a defined chemical task. 4
StrellaLab already includes vitamin C, quercetin and resveratrol; it deserves credit for combining a precursor with antioxidant ingredients. Hollywood Elixir includes those ingredients and adds reduced glutathione, vitamin E, astaxanthin and other companions. CoQ10’s electron-carrying role and glutathione’s peroxide-removal role make the broader formula intelligible: obtaining usable energy and maintaining protective chemistry are continuing jobs in the same cell. 2
Those biological roles explain our ingredient selection. They do not establish that feeding the finished formula improves energy production or antioxidant defenses in a dog.
The complete Hollywood Elixir formula
Hollywood Elixir is a 17-active NAD+ healthy-aging system for adult dogs and cats. Its design combines NAD+ precursors, mitochondrial ingredients, antioxidant nutrition and ingredients selected for immune support. CoQ10 and glutathione are examples of that design, not the entire product. 2
A full 2.5 g sachet declares 60 mg nicotinamide riboside tartrate, 40 mg CoQ10 98% preparation and 50 mg reduced glutathione. The rest includes niacin, riboflavin, vitamins B6 and B12, vitamins C and E, astaxanthin, quercetin, resveratrol, beta-glucans, reishi, spirulina, blueberry powder and whey protein isolate. The complete ingredient panel gives the exact forms and amounts, including preparation strengths. 2
The full panel lets you see how the wider design is put together and check it against supplements already in the routine. The powder is portioned for the dog’s size; the sachet is the reference amount, not a universal daily serving.
What “Recovery Immune Support” tells you
The product name describes StrellaLab’s positioning. It does not establish that the chew prevents infections, speeds recovery from an illness or restores a dog’s former stamina. The listing’s references to energy and brain health should be read in the same way: as claims to evaluate against research, rather than measured results for this jar. 1
Hollywood Elixir also includes ingredients selected for immune nutrition, including beta-glucans and reishi. We apply the same distinction to our formula. A nutritional design can have a clear purpose without a finished-product trial demonstrating a particular recovery or disease outcome. 2
What the research can tell a buyer
NR has meaningful human research behind it. In an eight-week randomized trial of 140 healthy overweight adults, NR chloride increased whole-blood NAD+ in a dose-dependent manner. That establishes a biomarker response in people; it does not tell us how many chews a dog should receive or how either finished formula affects daily life. 6
A controlled trial in senior dogs tested a different intervention: a proprietary NAD-precursor and senolytic regimen. A senolytic is intended to target senescent cells, which have stopped dividing but remain alive. Among the 59 dogs evaluated at three months, owner-rated cognition changed differently across groups, with the greatest improvement in the full-dose group. Activity monitors and the researchers’ cognitive tests did not show significant group effects. 7
The canine finding is encouraging for the combination studied. It does not isolate the precursor or establish a result for StrellaLab or Hollywood Elixir. Neither product has been shown by these studies to extend dogs’ lives. For a purchase, the supported differences remain the recipes, the evidence relevant to their ingredients and the routine you can sustain.
“CoQ10 carries electrons in the machinery that produces usable energy. Glutathione helps cells remove reactive hydrogen peroxide.”
What is known about NR safety in dogs?
NR chloride has been studied directly in dogs. EFSA’s assessment describes seven-day and 28-day oral toxicology studies in juvenile Beagles, including adverse findings at high exposures. These studies help characterize metabolism and short-term tolerability; they were not trials of years of healthy-aging use. 5
That distinction matters when an owner asks whether a daily formula is suitable. A short study of one ingredient cannot answer every question about medicines, health conditions or the other ingredients in a chew. Our NR for dogs guide takes a closer look at the ingredient evidence.
Daily portions and how long a pack lasts
StrellaLab’s retailer directions specify one chew a day up to 40 lb and two above 40 lb. That makes a 90-chew jar last 90 or 45 days respectively. These directions agree with the branded serving graphic inspected; the unresolved issue is the active amount within the chew. Follow the confirmed instructions for your own jar. 1
Hollywood Elixir’s adult daily guidance is half a sachet below 7 lb, one sachet at 7–30 lb and two sachets above 30 lb. A sachet contains 2.5 g. A 90-sachet pack therefore lasts 90 days at one daily or 45 days at two; the Double 180-sachet option supplies 90 days at two daily. 9
A treat, or part of dinner?
StrellaLab’s soft chew can suit a dog who readily takes a separate treat. Its listed carrier ingredients include oat and rice flours, glycerin, palm fruit oil, sunflower lecithin, citric acid and peanut-butter flavor; the listing identifies it as chicken-free. 1
Hollywood Elixir’s savory powder becomes part of the meal already on the menu. It contains chicken ingredients and whey protein isolate, so that recipe deserves attention if your dog has food restrictions. Neither flavor nor format guarantees acceptance. Choose the routine your dog can comfortably follow, and have any new product checked before adding it during a veterinary food-elimination trial. 2

NASC membership, testing and the actual jar
NASC lists StrellaLab as a Primary Supplier. Its profile says the supplier still must pass an independent facility audit to obtain permission to display the Quality Seal. We can verify the listing; it would be inaccurate to describe that wording as confirmation that StrellaLab holds the audited seal. 8
A batch report answers a separate question: what was tested in an identified sample or lot. A public finished-lot report for this NAD+ chew was not established in the product and brand sources reviewed. That does not establish that testing was never done. Ask for the report for the jar you buy, including which actives and contaminants were measured.
Hollywood Elixir provides a public COA lookup where you can inspect available records and their stated scope. A report is useful quality information; it is not a clinical trial. The wider StrellaLab review covers the brand-level assessment. 10
What each daily routine costs
StrellaLab’s 90-chew jar was listed at US$29.97 one time. Hollywood Elixir’s 30-sachet Standard pack is US$89, and Standard 90 is US$199. These are the prices checked for this comparison, before shipping and tax, without subscription discounts. 1 9
For a 25 lb adult dog, both the StrellaLab jar at one chew daily and Hollywood Elixir Standard 90 at one sachet daily last 90 days. That works out to approximately US$0.33 versus US$2.21 a day. The servings are their respective directions, not equivalent doses or promises of equivalent results.
StrellaLab is clearly less expensive. Hollywood Elixir is our recommendation for building the broader daily routine explained here. Its price buys the complete formulation in measured sachets, with the recipe and serving made explicit before you order. Choose the Hollywood Elixir option for your dog’s size.
Adding it to an existing supplement routine
Before adding either formula, put the current food, medicines and supplements on one list. Ingredients can overlap even when product names sound different: a multivitamin may contain niacin, while another healthy-aging product may already include NR, quercetin or resveratrol.
The practical question is what the new formula adds and what it might replace. For a dog taking medicines or living with a diagnosed condition, have the treating veterinarian review the full proposed recipe and daily amount. A supplement should not become a reason to postpone assessment of a new change in movement, appetite or behavior.
What should you expect to notice?
The reviewed studies do not provide a reliable deadline for visible changes from either product. A dog who is already doing well may show no obvious difference, and several good weeks cannot establish that aging has slowed.
There are still useful things to evaluate: whether the dog willingly takes the product, tolerates it, and whether the cost and routine remain manageable. If a particular concern prompted the purchase, decide with your veterinarian what to observe and when to review it. Avoid crediting a supplement automatically when food, medicines or other care changed at the same time.
Our choice for daily cellular nutrition
For daily healthy-aging nutrition, we recommend Hollywood Elixir. Its 17-active system develops the NAD+ idea into a broader nutritional approach: the building blocks, energy-producing machinery and protective functions of a working cell considered together. The earlier ingredient explanations are why we chose that design.
Putting it into practice is simple: give the portion directed for your dog and mix it into the usual meal. You can inspect the full recipe, check how it fits the existing routine and choose a pack with a clear understanding of its supply. That makes the formula a deliberate daily choice you can sustain.
StrellaLab remains the lower-cost chew option. Confirm its current label first; its treat format and price may be the deciding factors for some owners.
Explore the complete Hollywood Elixir system, then choose your dog’s portion and pack.

FAQ
Is StrellaLab NAD+ Recovery Immune Support a dog supplement?
Yes. The reviewed item is a 90-count, peanut-butter-flavored soft chew for dogs. This review does not establish a cat serving.
Does it contain NAD+, NR or NMN?
The ingredient list and branded graphics identify NR/NR chloride, while the retailer description names NMN. These are different compounds. Ask StrellaLab to confirm the current jar’s formula; the NAD+ name alone does not establish direct NAD+ content.
How much NR is in a chew?
We could not establish a consistent current amount from the conflicting published graphics and analysis text. Request the active panel and its serving basis rather than dividing a disputed jar total or treating a malformed entry as a confirmed dose.
How many chews do the directions specify?
The reviewed directions say one daily up to 40 lb and two above 40 lb. Follow the confirmed label for your own jar.
How long does the 90-chew jar last?
It lasts 90 days at one chew daily or 45 days at two. The number of chews per day changes cost and supply.
Is StrellaLab an NASC Quality Seal holder?
The NASC profile checked lists StrellaLab as a Primary Supplier and says it still must pass an independent audit to obtain permission to display the seal. That wording verifies membership, not audited seal status.
Will either product help my dog live longer?
The studies reviewed do not establish lifespan extension from either finished product. Human NR biomarker research and the senior-dog combination trial answer narrower questions.
Can I give the chews and Hollywood Elixir together?
Do not assume that combining them improves the result. They contain overlapping precursor and antioxidant ingredients. Have the full recipes and daily amounts reviewed alongside your dog’s existing care before stacking formulas.
Why does Hollywood Elixir cost more?
The higher price buys a wider 17-active healthy-aging formulation in portioned sachets. The comparison explains the additional ingredient roles so you can judge that design against the price, food fit and ongoing routine.
Which would La Petite Labs choose?
We recommend Hollywood Elixir as a complete daily system for the cellular-nutrition approach explained here. Its full recipe and weight-based portions make the wider formulation practical to give and inspect. An owner prioritizing a lower-cost treat may prefer StrellaLab after confirming the jar’s label.
Discover LPL-01: How This Fits Into a Larger Canine Longevity System
Aging in dogs is not driven by a single pathway. It’s the result of interacting biological systems—energy metabolism, oxidative stress, immune signaling, and structural integrity—changing over time.
This article explores one piece of that puzzle. If you want to understand how these pieces connect—and what actually moves the needle—you need to zoom out.
