This 4-week plan keeps changes gradual so you can tell what’s helping.
Week 1: Set the environment
- Add a humidifier if your home is dry; keep humidity steady.
- Swap to fragrance-free detergent and avoid fabric softeners.
- Consider detergent/litter irritants: move to an unscented, low-dust litter and rinse washable bedding thoroughly.
Week 2: Build a brushing schedule
- Brushing schedule: 3–5 short sessions per week (1–3 minutes), increasing only if your cat stays relaxed.
- Focus on gentle passes; avoid “scrubbing” flaky areas.
Week 3: Targeted, cat-safe cleaning (only if indicated)
- If there’s mild grime or dander, use fragrance-free, vet-approved wipes for spot cleaning.
- Skip full baths unless your veterinarian recommends it; over-bathing can worsen dryness.
Week 4: Maintain and assess
- Keep the same routine; don’t add multiple new products at once.
- What to track weekly: flakes (less/more), itch frequency (scratching/overgrooming), odor (neutral vs stronger), and any new redness.
Expected changes are usually subtle: fewer flakes, less static, and calmer grooming behavior. If signs worsen or you notice sores, swelling, or strong odor, stop new additions and seek veterinary guidance.
