Maine Coons shed for normal reasons—growth cycles, season, indoor light exposure—and also for “presentation” reasons: dryness, tangles, and friction that make loose hair release everywhere. The most effective maine coon shedding remedies don’t fight the fact that the breed has a lot of coat; they make that coat easier to manage and nicer to live with.
Start by noticing where shedding shows up. If you’re seeing mats at the armpits and belly, the issue is undercoat compaction. If you’re seeing a dusty, dull topcoat, the issue may be skin comfort and grooming slip. These are different problems with different solutions, and recognizing the pattern is the first real step in shedding control.(Summers SC, 2020)
